Deaf Space project: Architecture / ASL / the city

Here is a brief video (under 15 minutes) where (hearing) architect Hansel Bauman speaks on the Deaf Space project with which he’s involved (ASL interpreter is visible throughout the video). (His brother is Dirksen Bauman, professor of ASL and Deaf Studies at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.)

Also check out the Deaf Geographies Sandbox blog, and the multiple Deaf Geographies presentations at the AAG this year in 2012…

(I studied ASL and Deaf culture at U.Va. as an undergraduate and at the University of Arizona with Samuel Supalla as a graduate student–I find the intersection of Deaf culture and geography absolutely fascinating…  hopefully there will be more discussion at the 2013 AAG?…)
