From early, legendary cities such as Timbuktu, centres of civilisation and learning for hundreds of years, through to early colonial urbanism in places such as Cape Coast and Port Louis, through to the archetypal colonial planned cities such as Accra and on to the post independence period and the era of glocalisation epitomised by booming Lagos.
